Ohh those sweet newborn days. That baby smell, those tiny feet, and the joy of witnessing all your baby’s first times. As I welcomed baby # 3, our little Luna, I felt the excitement of reliving all of these special moments I had lived with my older kids, until it hit me. My long nights of sleep were about to —once again— turn into nights filled with long breastfeeding hours and diaper changes, and not a whole lot of sleeping (ouch!), so when I heard about the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app and that it could help me improve my baby’s sleep, of course I had to try it.
I’m so honored that Pampers asked me to create an article about my experience and truly excited to be able to share it with you mama. This is a sponsored review of their sleep app which I’ve been using as a newborn mom during my baby’s first weeks.
Let’s dive into the app
So what is the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app all about? In short, it’s an app designed by Pediatric Sleep Consultants and Pediatricians to make our “mama lives” a little better by helping our little ones sleep better.
Not only does it offer a custom plan unique to our babies, to help us solidify good sleep from day 1, but it also includes lots of expert mini-courses and science-backed content to help us feel supported every step of the way.
Like…did you know the act of falling asleep is a learned skill? Yep! And we can help our babies master it with the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app, by understanding more about “when”, “where”, and “how” our babies sleep.
How does it work?
The very first thing you do is complete this 3-minute quiz. The purpose of the quiz is to learn more about your baby and understand their current sleeping habits, regardless of their age. The quiz is very easy to fill out and includes multi-answer questions about things like your baby’s age, sleeping space, typical bedtimes, and sleeping struggles.
The info the app gathers is the first step into getting to know your baby and a key part of crafting a sleep program that’s ideal for you.
Once you’re done with the quiz, you can start your 7-day free trial and unlock access to mini-courses on various sleep-related topics like “The Fundamentals of Baby Sleep”, “Your Baby’s Sleeping Rhythm” and “Sleep Soothing Tips”. You can take any mini-course at your own pace or follow your custom plan where each mini-course builds up on the other.
My favorite part, which you’ll also have access to at this point, is your baby’s sleeping schedule. During the first days, it’ll ask you to input your baby’s naps, feedings, and bedtimes so it can start learning about their sleeping patterns. Then, it’ll start giving you suggestions and tips so you can make little adjustments to improve your baby’s sleeping routine. You can even turn on your phone notifications so the app can remind you when a nap time or wake time is approaching.
This has been a game-changer for me because it allows me to plan my days better! Combined with what I’m learning through the mini-courses, I’m now able to prepare Luna’s environment for optimal sleep with plenty of time.
Why did I decide to try it?
Although with every new baby, I’ve become a more experienced mom, I’ve also discovered that I face a new set of challenges because my circumstances change. As a homeschooling mom of two who runs an online business, finding a good sleep routine for my baby is essential. Being able to sleep better during the night, so I can wake up before my kids, is key for maintaining our family logistics.
The Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app is like having my very own sleep consultant to help me navigate this special and new season of motherhood I’m currently in.
My biggest baby sleep misconceptions
This sleep app review wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t share some of the biggest misconceptions I had about baby sleep, before trying the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app. I probably heard some of these beliefs somewhere and took them as my own. I definitely didn’t know any better and perhaps you have some of these beliefs too.
- Newborns never sleep: Actually, newborn babies sleep approximately 16 hours a day! That’s about 75% of the day.
- I have no control over my baby’s wake and nap times: Contrary to what most parents think, we are in fact, able to control our baby’s sleeping environment which directly affects when, how good, and how long they sleep.
- I’ll sleep better when my baby is older: Although the very first weeks can be challenging, babies –with our help– are able to learn good sleeping habits and can get into a healthy rhythm as early as 6 weeks from birth. That doesn’t mean a 6-week-old is going to sleep through the night, but you can sync with their natural rhythms and improve sleep for everyone!
My experience trying the app as a newborn mom
After trying the app during Luna’s first weeks, these are my biggest highlights:
- I love how easy it is to use and how quickly it picks up on Luna’s sleeping patterns.
- I really enjoy the nap and wake-time reminders because they help me stay on track. They’re especially useful during these weeks of adjustments.
- Thanks to the app I’m now able to estimate Luna’s overnight waking times which allows me to plan my bedtime better.
- With the help of her custom schedule, I’m also able to prepare her nap times better and organize my family routine around them.
Since I’m a mom of 3 who loves to travel, I would love to see some added courses on handling baby sleep with other children at home, and of course, I think it would be so cool to get expert tips on sleeping while traveling with a baby.
What I’m looking forward to the most
In the coming weeks, I’m so looking forward to hitting some of Luna’s sleeping milestones, including discovering her own sleeping and waking rhythm guided by day and night, and of course, her very first time sleeping through the night.
I hope you enjoyed this detailed sleep app review. I think the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers app is a great tool to have as a mom if you’re struggling with baby sleep or simply if you’re looking to make it better.
